Ethylene glycol monobutyl ether is listed in Table C of ADN and is there assigned to UN No. 9003 "SUBSTANCES WITH A FLASHPOINT ABOVE 60 C BUT NOT MORE THAN 100 C which are not
affected to another class". Accordingly, it would only be a dangerous good if transported in tank vessels. However, according to an expert opinion of the Federal Office for Risk Assessment (BfR), the substance has toxic properties according to packing group III. The technically pure substance can have a flash-point of not more than 60 C due to impurities. This results in an assignment to UN No. 1992 "FLAMMABLE LIQUID, TOXIC, N.O.S." in Class 3 for this BAM No.
There is a second BAM No. 2821 for the pure substance, which takes into account only the toxic properties (UN No. 2810 "TOXIC LIQUID, ORGANIC, N.O.S.").
